The inquiry on 29 Sept re: chemical lists for schools raises several questions: ---If there is a list, to what activities is it applicable? ---If a school or teacher elects to use a suggested list provided by the textbook or laboratory workbook publisher, what happens to the store of suggested chemicals when either the program is changed or the staff view of program priorities changes? ---With many school districts facing financial restrictions, it may be more profitable for a science department to deal with low cost activities that are green and/or minimally consumptive of chemicals instead of traditional activities. ---If a school district has a good chemical health and safety program, that program's director, in cooperation with the science department should be able to develop a site specific list of chemicals. ---It is probably easier to list the items that should not be in the inventory rather than to list those that should be there.
