Subject: cleaning glassware in boiling nitric and hydrochloric acids
Dear Division Members,

I'm sure most of you are in San Francisco attending the national
meeting, but I'd like to get your input on this topic...

 

We have a biogeochemistry lab that uses open 4 L beakers of nitric and
hydrochloric acid on hotplates in a fume hood to clean the sample jars
they use.

 

Does anyone at your institution do similar work? Is there any pre-made
glassware designed for this use that captures these emissions? 

Of course I am prepared to encourage their use of a round bottom flask
with reflux condenser, but I am looking for other suggestions.
