From: Peter ReinhardtDate: August 7, 2006 11:05:06 AM EDT Subject: Your Comments on EPA's Academic Lab Rule TIME SENSITIVE: The Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) requests that you—or your college or university—send the Environmental Protection Agency a comment on their proposal to create a new, optional set of hazardous waste regulations for academic laboratories. EPA’s proposal is a rare opportunity for higher education to create regulations that better fit colleges and universities. At http://www.cshema.org/committee/ Govtrelations/academiclabrule.htm you will find more information, a “Sample Comment Letter,” and “CSHEMA’s 8/5/06 Comment Letter,” which was drafted by dozens of expert EHS professionals. Comments are due to EPA by August 21 and may be submitted electronically: · Via http://www.regulations.gov by following the on-line instructions and identifying them by Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-RCRA 2003-0012 or EPA-2050 AG 18 RCRA-2003-0012. · Or by sending an email to RCRA-docket**At_Symbol_Here**epamail.epa.gov and making them, “Attention Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-RCRA-2003-0012 or EPA-2050 AG 18 RCRA-2003-0012” By mail, comment letters may be sent to: OSWER Docket EPA Docket Center Mailcode: 5305T Environmental Protection Agency 1200 Pennsylvania Ave., NW. Washington, DC 20460 “Attention Docket ID Number EPA-HQ-RCRA-2003-0012 or EPA-2050 AG 18 RCRA-2003-0012.” We very much encourage letters in support of CSHEMA’s letter. Your letter would be most effective, however, if you would call out the priorities for your college or university. EPA COUNTS COMMENTS, so please help us maximize the number of comments sent to EPA. Several colleges, universities and organizations representing higher education are planning to endorse CSHEMA’s letter. Pete Peter A.
