I received the following replies to my inquiry about texts useful for preparing for the CHO certification exam. Thanks to everyone who replied! - Ralph Ralph Stuart, CIH Environmental Safety Manager University of Vermont Environmental Safety Facility 667 Spear St. Burlington, VT 05405 rstuart**At_Symbol_Here**uvm.edu fax: (802)656-5407 I found reading the OSHA standards to be particularly helpful. === Take the ACS CHO course that is offered on the Saturday before the exam and you should have no problem receiving your CHO certification. You might want to read OSHA's Haz Chemicals in Labs Standard in the Federal Register 29 CFR 1910.1450 before taking the course. Good Luck! === I don't know about now, but when I took the exam simply reading the OSHA Lab Standard and your common sense knowledge of chemistry and H&S was quite sufficient to pass the exam. == As you know, the Division produces a prep course for the exam, which is offered at all ACS national and many other national & regional meetings. While I would recommend the course as very useful, I'm sure you know the OSHA standard was prepared largely on recommendations from Prudent Practices for the Handling & Disposal of Chemicals in Laboratories , published by the National Academies of Science/National Research Council. That would be ideal reading for anyone studying for the exam.
