Subject: Don't Miss June 1 EH&S Seminar in W.D.C.
The long awaited Proposed Rule on academic laboratory waste has been
posted at www.epa.gov/epaoswer/osw/specials/labwaste/index.html and
will soon be published in the Federal Register. If you'd like to hear
EPA's views on the proposed rule, Office of Solid Waste representative,
Ms. Meg McCarthy, will be speaking on the topic at the upcoming Regional
EH&S Seminar on June 1, and will welcome comments and questions.

The seminar will be held at Caldwell Hall at The Catholic University of
America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. on June 1 and 2, 2006. People from
educational institutions or laboratory-based organizations - either
small or large - will benefit from attending. The program will include
a day-long conference on a variety of contemporary topics followed by a
half-day focused workshop on fire safety management. You can choose to
attend the one-day session, the half-day workshop, or both.

The overall theme of the seminar will be strategies for containing new
threats and building on new opportunities. Additional featured topics
include:

* Emergency preparedness for Terrorist Threats

* Pandemic Flu Threats and Preparedness

* Vulnerability Assessments for Campus Buildings

* Fire Safety Management - On and Off Campus

* Update on Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures
(SPCC) Plans

*         Campus Sustainability Panel Discussion

The half-day workshop will address emerging fire safety issues,
including off-campus fire safety, and the essential elements of a robust
fire safety management program. A detailed agenda is now posted at the
conference website.

To view the agenda and workshop descriptions, obtain travel details, and
