Master’s degree in one of the above stated disciplines is preferred. Professional certification in an area of environmental health and safety is preferred. EXPERIENCE: Five years of experience with responsibility for the management of a comprehensive environmental health and safety program covering lab safety, hazardous waste, construction safety, employee safety, fire and life safety, regulatory reporting (federal, state, and local) is required. This experience in an academic or research environment is preferred. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for ensuring the completion of surveys and inspections related to environmental health and safety; servicing and testing of fire protection equipment and systems; necessary drills; emergency response to incidents involving hazardous materials; identify and prioritize environmental risks; develop environmental policies, programs, and procedures for UT Tyler; collect and analyze data, formulate opinions, and recommend proactive solutions to control environmental risks and improve practices through encouragement and support; research and maintain working knowledge of relevant environmental rules and regulations; develop, institute, and coordinate safety policies for UT Tyler employees; administer, develop, and deliver training and/or presentations to diverse groups and audiences; preview the component injury data and ascertain location of injuries and provide recommendation to eliminate hazards; conduct periodic surveys and inspections of facilities and equipment to comply with code requirements, identify safety hazards, prevent accidents, and conserve University property; inspect all fire and life safety measures on the campus on an on- going basis and identify items that need repair of preventative maintenance; attend UT System-wide workgroups and committees; perform other duties as required.
