Leigh Leonard PRIZIM Inc. 608.848.9411 301.840.2222 ext. 114 The Catholic University of America to Host Regional EH&S Seminar Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the upcoming CSHEMA-PRIZIM Regional Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Seminar at The Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. on June 1 and 2, 2006. This seminar is designed for anyone with an interest in campus and laboratory health and safety, environmental compliance, or emergency preparedness issues. People from educational institutions or laboratory-based organizations - either small or large -- will benefit from attending. The seminar will be held at Caldwell Hall at CUA, located in Washington, D.C. and easily accessible from Washington Reagan National Airport. CUA is conveniently located on the Brookland-CUA stop of the Metro Red Line. The program will include a day-long conference on a variety of contemporary topics presented by invited speakers, and followed by a half-day focused workshop on fire safety management. You can choose to attend the one-day session, the half-day workshop, or both. The overall theme of the seminar will be strategies for containing new threats and building on new opportunities. A featured presentation will be how to respond to the emerging threat of pandemic flu, by Peter Reinhardt, Director, Environment, Health and Safety at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There will also be a unique panel discussion focusing on the conversation among representatives EH&S, Facilities Management, and academia around sustainability issues at the University of Maryland. Additional topics will include: * Living with CBRN - Retooling Emergency Management to Terrorist Threats * Vulnerability Assessments for Campus Buildings * Fire Safety Management - On and Off Campus * Update on Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans and the new rule for management of academic laboratory wastes The half-day workshop will address emerging fire safety issues, including off-campus fire safety, and the essential elements of a robust fire safety management program.
