California State University, Fullerton

 

The Department of Environmental Health and Instructional Safety at
California State University in Fullerton California is seeking an
Administrative II position who will serve as the Manager of Occupational
Health and Safety.

 

Job Summary: The campus Environmental Programs Manager is the person
responsible for the oversight and direction of the University's
Environmental Compliance Program.  This is a position working under the
direction of the Director of Environmental Health & Instructional Safety
with signatory program approval from the Vice President or the Associate
Vice President for Administration.  Additionally, the Environmental
Compliance Manager is responsible for, but not limited to, the
following:

*         Develops, maintains, and manages components of the campus
Environmental Compliance Program and the University Business Plan.  

*         Prepares annual and biannual reports for submittal to
appropriate regulatory authorities. 

*         Serves as primary liaison for South Coast Air Quality
Management District, Cal-EPA, Department of Toxic Substances, Department
of Health Services, Regional Water Board, etc. 

*         Develops, maintains, and manages campus Storm Water Management
plan. 

*         Serves as University Hazardous Material Coordinator to develop
and implement policies relative to hazardous materials management. 

*         Advises University departments of record keeping requirements.

*         Serves on various university emergency management/response
teams.

*         Supervises the pickup and disposal of hazardous material
campuswide and manages the operation of the hazardous materials storage
facility.

*         Assists University departments with information, training, and
coordination of hazardous substance use in the workplace.  

*         Supervises the Radiation Safety Officer and Chemical Hygiene
Officer.  

*         Other duties as required.  

 

Essential Qualifications:  Three years of experience in development and
implementation of environmental compliance programs at a facility level
is required. Included in this experience should be air quality
compliance, storm water, hazardous material management, EPA, Cal-EPA,
Department of Toxic Substances, Department of Health Services, Regional
Water Board, etc. Must have previous hands on experience in the
handling, storage, shipping and minimization of hazardous materials and
waste.  Competency with PC computers and related software including
Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Familiarity and use
of the Internet is required. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Member of a chemical response team preferred.
University experience preferred.  Experience in the development and
delivery of training programs in the area of environmental compliance
preferred. Ability to relate and work effectively with a multilevel
constituency. HAZWOPER training and asbestos certification preferred.
Familiarity with Microsoft FrontPage preferred. Previous supervisory and
higher education work experience preferred.  

 

License/Certification: Certification from a national organization such
as CHMM or from an accredited university in occupational health and
safety is strongly preferred. 

 

Special Working Conditions:  Emergency incident response may require
contact with hazardous materials or hazardous waste.  This job will
require occasional emergency response during non-work hours.  A valid
driver's license and good driving record is required to drive state
vehicles.
