It reflects the prudent practices that we should follow. Of course, we must follow binding OSHA ( and other ) regulations, but who could possibly think that because a person ( e.g., a student ) might not be actually covered by a sensible regulation, that we should even consider waiving that reg? Just imagine the scene in a courtroom, after an accident occured to such a person, and you are defending yourself - "But your honor, OSHA does not require a beginning student handling con. sulfuric acid to wear safety glasses." In such situations, remember to ask yourself - "What would the prudent person do?"
