Subject: RE: [DCHAS-L] Need Your Opinion on Safety Issues

There is no excuse I can imagine for not having skin below the lab coat
covered. It is often not what you spill, but what others spill that
is an
issue. This includes wearing foot coverings (i.e. not being sockless).
Among other things, such requirements emphasize the serious nature of
the
work.

An approach is to require coverage of skin below the lab coat closure,
rather than stating pants. Some of our diverse cultures have
problems with
pants as jeans. You're looking for a barrier to solvents, glass,
"stuff,"
etc. If it is inconvenient, that's OK. There are opportunities to
change,
just as they do for gym classes or art classes, etc.
