Safety Officer II

UNC Facility Services Division

Position No. 0056375, Closing Date: 7/18/05

 

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Safety
Officer to oversee the health and safety operations of the Facilities
Services Division, a major physical plant that includes extensive
industrial operations and a staff of over 980 employees. The position
will direct the Division's health and safety program, including
enforcing federal, state and university regulations, evaluating internal
shop safety operations; inspecting facilities for safety hazards;
conducting safety inspections of university construction sites,
providing safety expertise in support of special events such as
commencement; providing technical expertise to management on safety and
health matters, developing written reports on safety issues and ensuring
that corrective actions are taken as specified.

 

The position will be responsible for developing, monitoring and
maintaining standard operating procedures. Duties include conferring
regularly with federal, state and university safety and health
representatives to ensure compliance. The position will also manage the
Division's Safety Committee to include investigating accidents to
determine cause and corrective action. 

 

Minimum requirements include graduation from a four-year college or
university with a major in safety management, occupational safety,
industrial technology or one of the physical sciences and a minimum of
one year progressive occupational safety and health experience.

 

Preferred qualifications include extensive knowledge of federal and
state safety and health standards acquired through at least four years
of experience in a university or industrial physical plant setting;
ability to develop and present training on a wide variety of safety
topics; excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency
in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, Internet Browser software
and database manipulation. Salary Range: $30,354 - 46,653 

 

 

Workers' Compensation/Clinical Hygienist (University Industrial
Hygienist)

UNC Department of Environment, Health and Safety

Position No. 0001163, Closing Date: 7/29/05

 

This position will serve as the administrator of the University's
Workers' Compensation and Clinical Hygienist. Responsibilities include
the processing and management of workers' comp claims, OSHA
recordkeeping, clinical safety compliance with items such as
tuberculosis & bloodborne pathogens, employee medical surveillance,
training, and maintenance of a comprehensive safety database.

 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and experience in
workers' compensation, and/or clinical safety, and/or occupational
safety and health. Strong interpersonal/communication skills with a keen
eye for detail. Salary range $36,206 - 55,795. Please reference Position

Workplace Safety Officer (Safety Officer II)

This position assists in the education and inspection on OSHA
regulations for UNC's Hazard Management Program with additional emphasis
on PPE hazard assessment, identification of job specific training needs,
along with fit-testing for Respiratory Protection. Other
responsibilities include coordination of EHS safety course, safety
training, emergency response, investigation of injuries/illnesses, and
maintenance of a comprehensive safety database.

 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree preferably in
Occupational Safety and Health or related curriculum. Strong
communication and interpersonal skills are a must. The position involves
responding to an emergency situation on campus, occasional night and
weekend work. Salary range: $30,354-46,653. Please reference Position
