The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is pleased to announce the

Job Announcement

The Department of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management is
seeking a Laboratory Safety Coordinator to serve as the University’s
Chemical Hygiene Officer working with research and teaching laboratories,
facilities, and studio departments implementing and overseeing
comprehensive laboratory/studio safety programs.  UWM is a research
university serving over 26,000 students.

Duties:  The Laboratory Safety Coordinator serves as a highly visible
resource person for chemical and laboratory safety for all employees;
assists departments to establish active safety committees; to conduct
self-audits; to investigate incidents and assess corrective action; to
develop Chemical Hygiene and Chemical Management Plans, Health and Safety
Plans, and Standard Operating Procedures.  The coordinator develops and
presents laboratory and studio safety training programs for faculty,
students, teaching assistants, and staff; compiles and prepares reports,
and serves as a liaison between the University and various regulatory
agencies and auditors; responds to complaints, chemical spills,
emergencies; and participates in the development and implementation of
protocols and practices for department-wide safety, health and risk
management initiatives.

Minimum qualifications:  We seek a candidate with strong organizational
skills; ability to communicate effectively; ability to establish positive
working relationships with faculty, students, staff and departmental
colleagues.  A minimum of two to four years of progressively responsible
experience in chemical and laboratory safety, a commitment to equity,
diversity and customer service, and a bachelor’s degree in a related field
of science are required. A master’s degree is strongly preferred.
