Dear Lisa: This prof is in Florida as a temporary FEMA person. We are working as community relations specialists and are getting folks registered for FEMA assistance. As to the schools, you should have evacuation plans, shelter locations worked out, and have emergency supplies set aside to provide for the students living on campus. Perhaps you might consider setting up a university CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) at the University. I know that George Mason University in Fairfax, VA has a CERT team to deal with emergencies. If you want more information, let me know and I will follow up when (if) I return from Florida. I think all universities should set up their own CERT team that can respond to any type of emergency when the first responders are unable to cover a wide-spread emergency such as tornados or hurricanes, or manmade events.
