I am interested in getting advice/suggestions on pipeline pigging requirements. In our Nigeria operation, pipelines equipped with pig traps are required to be pigged at least every 5 years. 1. Is this interval normal? Not too frequent? 2. What of pipelines that were pigged but, for some unplanned reason, were not used for about 1 or 2 years? How do you address the compliance issues of 5-yr pigging? Do you just pig after 5 because the regs say so? Or do you wait until the pipeline has been used for 5 years? Remember - safety statistics are more than mere numbers. These are real people we are talking about.
